crazy weekend ahead…
So usually thursday nights i’m looking forward to friday. End of the week, pay day, no more work til Tuesday. But not this weekend… My crazy weekend begins with a junior high girls overnight being followed up by working at the shop from 8:30am-1pm Saturday. I don’t normally work saturdays… but it just so happened that Mr. Judd and two of the guys in the shop that work saturdays are in Hershey for the pmea state conference. So i’m working instead. If it’s anything like my 8 hour day today… it’ll be a dozen phone calls and one real customer. Yeah that’s right. It was a slow, yet nice, yet slow day.
So if you run across me this weekend and I’m zombie-ish or in a bad mood… my apologies. It’s not you, It’s me and my lack of sleep.
I’m waiting for some brownies to bake for tomorrow night… so I feel I’ll be up a bit longer. I thought maybe I’d update you on our financial battle… eventually I don’t want it to be a battle… but right now it’s still feeling like one.
Jeep pay off spectacular update: We’ve colored in the whole top of the vehicle! Windows and Windshield included…
1030 Louisa St. pay off spectacular update: Ok… since I just made this one and I started from the beginning I filled in quite a few boxes last time with my green marker. Reality kind of hit though when I saw our most recent mortgage payment and where the money went. I only filled in 1.7 squares… darn you interest and escrow!
Money Envelopes update: Well we’ve been trying to stick to $100 grocery and $100 out to eat cash envelopes. The groceries are going pretty well… though some how we always end up losing some of the money somewhere when we “need cash” and all we have are our envelopes. Maybe i’ll start making a miscellaneous envelope of $25 or $50 for each month so that we don’t dig into our food allowance. Anyway, I’ve been pretty good at spending $20-$25 at the store each week. Unfortunately it doesn’t really allow for much extra. It normally covers lunchmeat, cheese and bread for the week, plus milk, eggs, a weekly breakfast choice and any other little necessity, and maybe even some meat to cook for dinner! So maybe I’ll look to up that amount a little bit. Eating out often bites us in the butt. Somehow we always get down to about $10 about half way through the month. That’s not good planning because then we get hit up to go out to eat with friends or have a night where neither of us wants to cook (cough like tonight). So maybe some reassessment is in order for next month.
Ok that’s my update… and i’m pretty sure the brownies aren’t done yet… it’s another late night.

winter blues…
ok so it’s not really winter anymore… but it’s still cold. And even if it gets warmer outside I still FREEZE inside at work. this is a lose-lose situation.
On a higher note I am quite excited to have purchased soundtracks from both Across the Universe and Sweeney Todd. Both have amazing music… not in the cheesy musical way (which I still love by the way) but in a sophisticated and intricately interesting way! I love the new spins and voices that recreate the Beatles’ hits and bring them in to tell a story. And Sweeney Todd… whoa the music is mind blowing. Both great movies, but both have amazing soundtracks. It made my day to get the music in my ears, especially since i couldn’t find any music this morning that i wanted to hear.
by the way, if you give me a choice two songs, one being in a minor key and the other being in a major key… 9 out of 10 times I’ll choose the minor keyed song as the one i like better.

it’s time to get serious…
Alright, we’re back into a pretty normal routine with life, so that means welcome back money envelopes! Karl and I have started with the month of March to get back on track with finances. Something good to do especially when paying off your house. We started two envelopes this month one for groceries and one for eating out. We have cash so that we don’t run up the credit card and so that we know exactly where we stand with our budgeting. We also have started a 1030 Louisa Street pay-off spectacular! for our house. It now is on our refrigerator with the Jeep pay-off spectacular! I’m looking forward to getting back on top of our finances and controlling them… not letting money control us.

anxiety…
It always amazes me the anxiety I feel before I have to play the piano for any kind of performance. Usually things work out pretty well… I think the last terrible performance I had would have been my freshman year of college. At Geneva we had to do a recital at the end of each semester as well as boards (where we would be graded for the semester). Anyway my first ever recital was a real disaster. I had two pieces that I was supposed to play… memorized. Not only weren’t they memorized but I barely felt comfortable playing them with music. Like I said it was a disaster… and I wasn’t on the stage for more then a minute and a half. (Two songs remember!) It was a pretty embarrassing performance… I walked off stage and right out of the auditorium and back to my room to sulk! But what made me smile about that performance was that another music major that had been there thought it was a great performance and she really liked the pieces. I laughed. Just thinking about that day makes me cringe. I can’t think of too many other performances I’ve had that was worse then that. All that to say, I was pleased with my playing tonight for the freshman choir at Williamsport High School.

blown away…
I was completely blown away tonight by the number of junior highers that came out to the youth party tonight. I didn’t even know we were having a party til yesterday but wow they sure found out! Everyone is out participating in a photo scavenger hunt right now… except me. Call me a party pooper or what not but they give me headaches and I’d much rather just stay and wait and allow a kid to have my seat in the jeep. I put together a photo scavenger hunt last year for ayf around this time and while it was tons of fun it really was a headache running around everywhere and then to then get all the pictures up and ready to show. Plus sometimes peoples pictures aren’t as good as they think they are. So when it comes to the judging sometimes you become the bad guy. Anyway here are some of my favs from last year that I found.
